A Polynesian Paradise

Why Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort?

Escape to your tropical oasis just a monorail or boat ride away from the magic! Splash and slide at the volcano themed pool, or choose a quiet pool for ultimate peace and relaxation. Listen to live evening music with sublime cocktails and food. Tiki torches light your way to the white sand beach to watch fireworks. THIS is vacationing!

Walt Disney was fascinated with the South Seas. Have you visited his Enchanted Tiki Room at Magic Kingdom park? He wanted to include a Polynesian-themed hotel for his future guests at Walt Disney World. Even though he passed away before his Florida Project was even started, tropical-style Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort opened along with the Magic Kingdom on October 1,1971.

My personal backstory: We spent our honeymoon on Maui and have loved the Polynesian theme ever since. With every Walt Disney World trip, we would visit Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, get a Dole Whip, visit the Boutiki gift shop, soak in the atmosphere, and wish we were staying there. When we were finally hotel Guests, it was an emotional experience and brought back great memories (and some tears of happiness). The relaxing departure from busier hotels and the theme park experience adds so much more to your vacation. Where you choose to stay is so much more than where you sleep each night–it is an integral part of your vacation experience.

Welcoming Aloha Vibes

The overall vibe of Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort says, “Aloha… welcome, relax, slow down, you are on vacation.” While located within sight of Magic Kingdom Park, this Deluxe level resort hotel feels a world apart from the busy-ness and energy of Main Street USA. Here you can truly unwind and enjoy the architecture, intentional authentic touches and sounds of the South Seas as it envelops you with peace. Everywhere you walk you’ll notice details that invite you to enjoy where you are and be in the moment.  Staying at this resort hotel, we appreciate the intentional design in every detail. The Imagineers did an incredible job of respecting and reflecting Hawaiian culture and storytelling, not only when they created the hotel for the 1971 opening of Walt Disney World, but also when recent updates were done. It is a tropical paradise.

Stay in the Best Room Locations

You can enjoy spacious stays in a wide variety of room types, starting with 20 Bora Bora Overwater Bungalows, often considered the best accommodations there. Each is purposefully styled for groups of up to 8 with thoughtful amenities such as a plunge pool, a large kitchen and dining area, two bedrooms and two full bathrooms. From your Bungalow, you will have unobstructed views of the Magic Kingdom fireworks across Seven Seas Lagoon and see the Electrical Water Pageant float by. After touring a Bungalow, I can see why they are usually all booked, even though they are some of the most expensive accommodations there. They offer a very unique experience!

Celebrating something special? Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is home to King Kamehameha Club Level rooms supplying Guests with Personalized Guest Services, breakfast, snacks, and drinks. Among the Club Level accommodations are the VP Ambassador Suite and King Kamehameha Suite, and both sleep 8. The Club Level Honeymoon Suite for 2 awaits those celebrating their love!

Disney’s Polynesian Village Longhouses where many of the rooms are located have names like Tokelau, Fiji, Samoa, Tonga, and Moorea. 2021 Brought updates with new furnishings, fixtures, and Moana-themed details, patterns, textures, and colors. The rooms are truly beautiful and comfortable. We stayed in a 2-Queen Water View room in the Fiji Longhouse a few months ago and enjoyed watching Magic Kingdom fireworks from our balcony.

For years, Guests wanted to have ownership in a part of this tropical hotel, and now it is one of the most popular Disney Vacation Club (DVC) locations! Even non-owners can reserve DVC accommodations based on availability.

The New Island Tower opened in December 2024 and features 10 floors including over 260 rooms such as Duo Studios, 1- and 2-Bedroom Villas, and 2-Bedroom Penthouse Villas. Some locations even have views of the Magic Kingdom! The Island Tower celebrates the vibrant spirit of the Polynesian Islands and the natural elements. The breezy Wailulu Bar & Grill has great views of the Seven Seas Lagoon from comfy outdoor seating.

Let’s Talk About Wow Factor Food and Drinks

Undoubtedly, there are two Dining stars at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort.

ʻOhana hosts a breakfast character dining experience located on the second floor of the Great Ceremonial House where Guests can meet Lilo, Stitch and other Disney Characters while enjoying an all-you-care-to-eat island-style meal. This restaurant is filled with families for breakfast, but is also a sought-after reservation for those hoping to dine while watching Magic Kingdom fireworks if their evening reservation is timed just right.

Trader Sam's Grog Grotto might remind you of a Hawaiian speakeasy that features dreamy music and a tiki bar home to shenanigans from the servers. This can be a very difficult reservation to get because of the tiny size of Trader Sam’s. Just outside you will find Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace, where you can enjoy drinks, tropical themed food, and live musical entertainment most evenings. Whether you want to drink out of a pineapple or enjoy another libation, Trader Sam’s is an experience you will want to try.

Good Times on the Golf Courses

Just when you think that this Deluxe resort hotel couldn’t be more perfect, there are also two Disney Golf Courses across the street. Disney’s Palm and Magnolia have been home to past PGA tournaments and are beautifully landscaped and manicured. We have seen deer, alligators, turkeys and several raccoons on the course. The Disney golf courses are  Audubon Wildlife Cooperative Wildlife Sanctuaries.

If there is a golfer in your group, you cannot choose a better hotel location than Disney’s Polynesian Resort. Many don’t know that you get a complimentary taxi ride over to the golf courses (from any Disney Resort Hotel) and from The Polynesian, you will get there in five minutes. Also nestled within is Disney’s 9-hole Foot Golf course, Oak Trail, played with a colorful soccer ball instead of a golf ball. Of course, this is a hit with kids, and another fun activity you can take part in.

More Hidden Perks…

Guests of Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort can also enjoy Extra Evening Hours for Deluxe Resort Guests on select nights in the theme parks. This allows you to stay an extra two hours to enjoy cool evenings, shorter lines, and lower crowds after most other Guests leave. One of my favorite perks!

Transportation to Magic Kingdom could not be much easier. We like catching a boat ride over, and sometimes ride the Monorail. You can also ride the Monorail to get to Epcot; you can board at the Polynesian station, or walk to Ticket and Transportation by taking the path from the east part of the resort, then hop on the Epcot Monorail. There is bus transportation to Disney Springs, Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom.

If you are a Dole Whip fan, there is a dedicated spot for you to get one at Pineapple Lanai, including the version with rum. Walk a few steps to the Lava Pool, enjoy an evening movie on the lawn, or best of all, watch fireworks from the white sand beach with the people you love. You just might forget for a while that you’re not really in Hawaii.

This is definitely the most unique Disney Resort hotel at Walt Disney World. If you are ready to experience Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort and the happy feeling of being a Resort Guest, I would be happy to assist you with all of your plans, including those Magical Extras.

Aloha!
